FAQ

How early should my child visit the dentist?

We follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that says a child should visit the dentist by age one or no later than six months after the first tooth comes in.

Can I stay by my child’s side during treatment?

We welcome you to stay with your child during their first visit to our dental office. If treatment is needed beyond routine cleanings, we will take your child back for these appointments by without the parent. Dr. Vargas has over 30 years of experience as a pediatric dentist, educator, and researcher. She has published studies on behavior of children in the dental office and understands how to work with your child to accomplish dentistry in a safe and effective manner.

Are you available for emergencies?

Should your child have an emergency, we are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What if I have a question after hours?

If you have a question after hours, you can call the office and leave a message. We will call you the following day with an answer. If you have an emergency, Dr Vargas is always available.

Are your X-rays safe?

Our dental radiographs are extremely safe. We use state-of-the-art digital radiographs and collimated cones that direct the radiation exposure exclusively to the area being examined. Our radiographs are so safe that the American Dental Association recently removed the need for lead shielding during dental radiographs.

Why do I need a board-certified pediatric dentist for my child?

To be a pediatric dentist, we spend two additional years beyond dental school training exclusively in children’s growth and development, psychological and emotional milestones, and restorative treatments unique to children. Board certification requires an additional examination process as well as continued assessments. The board-certification process ensures that your pediatric dentist is always up to date with current literature on all aspects of pediatric dentistry.
